Amaechi: I No Wan Be Vice, I Wan Be President for 2027

 Rotimi Amaechi

Former Rivers State governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, don make am clear: for 2027, the only office wey dem fit expect from am na presidency. E don promise say him no go accept any Vice President slot under any joint ticket.

Amaechi declare this time after time, especially since dem begin talk say he fit join African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition with other big names. For August 2025, Amaechi officially throw him name into di ring as presidential aspirant under ADC. He talk say him go participate for ADC primary and no plan to step down for anybody.

In one interview, Amaechi even promise say if Nigeria give am chance to lead, he go serve only one term, four years. E reason am say na fair way to respect rotation agreement between North and South, and to give younger generation chance later.

Amaechi background show say him get strong political experience. E don serve as Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker (1999-2007), then Governor of Rivers State (2007-2015), then Minister of Transportation (2015-2022). Before he resign to contest for APC ticket in 2023, many people dey see am as major political operator.

For 2023 APC presidential primary, Amaechi come second after Bola Tinubu, though Tinubu win.

But since him move to ADC, some people don begin talk say the coalition for 2027 fit split because too many heavyweights dey, with names like him, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi all eyeing presidential ticket.

Even some strong politicians don warn say this ambition fit “dead on arrival.” For example, the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike publicly dismissed Amaechi’s bid, saying him no get strong backing to clinch the presidency under current circumstances.

But oil and gas producing communities, especially from the Niger Delta, don throw support behind Amaechi, saying him experience and background make am good candidate to lead country.

Amaechi don also speak out sharply about the present state of Nigeria under Tinubu government. He accuse ruling APC of creating hardship for ordinary Nigerians, and say many people don lose hope because inflation and cost of living don hard.

As dis 2027 election approach, Amaechi dey push that ADC, the opposition coalition, must adopt an open, fair primary. E say internal democracy go help the party, and no be ticket-for-sale or imposition.

So far, Amaechi dey stress say him ambition no be about personal power, but to give Nigerians hope for change, especially as many people dey suffer from economy pains. For him own words, only Nigerians fit stop current hardship, not only vote, but demand accountability and honest leadership.

But with many big names eyeing same ticket for ADC, and internal tensions over party zoning, Amaechi’s 2027 dream still dey face serious obstacles. Whether him go still get shot or his ambition go slump remain story wey time go tell.
