Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, don talk say the Boko Haram crisis no get anything to do with religion, as the insurgency don affect both Muslims and Christians seriously. He explain say, based on government records, more Muslims don die, get abducted or displaced than Christians, even though every loss of life pain everybody.
Zulum yarn this one during one high-level meeting with leaders of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for Government House, Maiduguri. The meeting aim to strengthen cooperation between government and religious groups so dem fit join hands fight insecurity and promote lasting peace.
The governor explain say some people dey push wrong narratives wey dey make the crisis look like religious wahala, but the facts no support that kind talk. Boko Haram, according to am, attack mosques and churches equally and scatter communities without caring about anybody’s religion. He talk say the majority of victims for the state na Muslims, and this common suffering suppose unite everybody instead of dividing them.
Zulum also reveal say the state government don continue reconstruction, resettlement and rehabilitation across many affected areas. As part of this work, dem don rebuild at least 45 Christian worship centres wey insurgents destroy during the height of the attacks. He remind the meeting say Borno people normally live together as one family, with Christians and Muslims often staying under the same roof, celebrating, eating and supporting one another through good and bad times.
The governor add say the state’s reconstruction efforts no dey follow religion or tribe, but dey guided by fairness and the needs of each community. Government, according to am, remain committed to protecting everybody’s right to worship freely and safely.
Zulum give the religious leaders one key message: “Make we no allow anybody use religion divide us. This crisis na attack on everybody, and the only way forward na unity, tolerance and support for one another.”
Religious leaders wey attend the meeting praise the governor’s approach. The Chairman of CAN for Borno, Bishop John Bogna Bakeni, talk say Nigeria must solve her own problems through justice and fairness. The representative of JNI also commend Zulum for encouraging dialogue and promise say the Islamic body go continue to support peace efforts.
