Fresh Attack for Kwara: 11 People Kidnapped, Including Pregnant Woman and Small Pikin

Just one week after dem release 38 worshippers wey bandits carry from Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Isegun, Eruku, another wahala don hit Kwara State again. At least 11 people don reportedly go missing on Monday evening for Isapa, one community wey near Eruku for Ekiti Local Government Area.

The matter happen around 6pm when between 20 and 30 armed bandits waka enter the quiet farming community with plenty cows, dey shoot anyhow as people dey run for their lives. Dem enter different parts of the town, dey fire gun enter houses. Bullet holes wey people see for walls, windows and doors show say the shooting heavy well-well.

One community leader wey yarn with PUNCH but beg make dem no mention him name confirm say na 11 people dem kidnap and seven of dem na from one family. Among the people wey dem carry include one pregnant woman, two nursing mothers and small pikin dem.

Dem list the victims as Talatu Kabiru; Magaji (6 years old); Kande (5 years old); Hadiza (10 years old); Mariam (6 years old); Saima (5 years old); Habibat (housewife); Fatima Yusufu; one 22-year-old pregnant woman wey dem call Sarah Sunday; Lami Fidelis; and Haja Na Allah wey be nursing mother.

The community leader talk say this attack na the worst wey dem don see for some time now. According to am, fear don hold everybody because nobody know wetin go happen next. “People dey fear. Eleven people just waka enter bush like that. We no even know wetin tomorrow go bring,” he talk.

One senior security officer also confirm the matter, talk say security people don already dey search inside the forest wey link Isapa, Eruku and other nearby villages. He yarn say even though federal security reinforcements still dey the area after the last church kidnapping, the forest big and get plenty villages, so e hard to cover everywhere at once.

The Police PRO for Kwara State, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, talk say police still dey confirm the details and go release official statement later. Up till when dem file this report, neither the police nor the state government don talk officially about the incident.

This latest attack don put fresh fear for Isapa, Eruku and other nearby towns. Local vigilantes don increase night patrols, and some churches and mosques don reduce their night programs because of safety reasons.

This kidnapping na the third major one for Ekiti LGA within less than one month. Three weeks ago, bandits kidnap 18 people for Eruku before dem rescue them. Last week again, dem carry 38 worshippers during church thanksgiving service — also for Eruku. People dey fear say if nothing quick happen, bandits fit dey try turn the area to their base.
