One Nigerian young man wey just finish him Master’s for the United Kingdom, identified as Hammed, don sadly die after him health suddenly worsen because of advanced cancer.
News about him passing circulate online on Sunday through one GoFundMe campaign wey friends and community members create. The fundraiser first start to support him medical treatment, but later dem change am to help give am proper burial after him condition turn worse.
Hammed, 36 years old, originally from Ayete for Oyo State but raised for Lagos, travel go the UK last September to begin his Master’s programme in Business and Management for the University of Plymouth.
Even when doctors diagnose him with cancer earlier this year, people close to am talk say he no allow the sickness stop am. He still push through the physical and emotional stress just to finish the programme wey he start.
Dem describe am as the last born for a family of four, a cheerful, friendly and caring person wey dey always put others first. According to people wey know am, he be “the joyful heart of his home.”
But for the last few weeks, him health suddenly begin decline fast, and the situation turn serious.
The people wey organise the GoFundMe explain say dem even try arrange make dem fly am come Nigeria so he fit spend his last moments with family. But doctors later talk say he no fit travel again because the sickness don weaken am too much.
Since dem no fit bring the body return home, the organisers appeal to the public to help support a dignified burial for am inside the UK.
Dem write say: “We dey raise funds to give Hammed a respectful burial. Any support — no matter how small — go help honour his memory and lighten the burden on his grieving family.”
Dem estimate say around £5,000 go fit cover coffin and burial plot for the UK. But as at Sunday, the fundraiser don pass £6,000, so the organisers pause the donations for now.
Hammed’s death happen just days after another Nigerian for UK reportedly die alone inside his flat and him body remain undiscovered for days, making many Nigerians abroad express concern about the rising number of young migrants facing difficult health and living conditions.
